Shhhh this is how it works.
Did you know conch shells, nebula of galaxies, and pinecones all have the same spiral pattern, a Fibonacci sequence? It’s mathematical. Apply this also to time: Rather than going in a straight line, maybe time goes in a Fibonacci spiral. Round and round, events from lower spirals echoing through the hollow corridors, creating a cacophony of sounds. As you go through life, you go map ever further spirals, still hearing the echoes, from before. The poet T.S. Elliot described it like this: “Time present, and time past are both perhaps present in time future. And time future contained in time past.”
Crazy people have more spirals that were loud, too loud. Or they have better hearing of the still moments of fear. Sanity seems be the thing that muffles those old echoes and silences those old voices. If only I get far enough around the spiral…. But no, I still hear it all.
